Driving overland from Paris to Perpignan will take between 12
and 14 hours, depending on the time of year and traffic conditions. Congestion
on the French autoroutes during peak holiday season (July/August) can add one to
two hours to this driving time.
We recommend an overnight stop when making this
journey by road. You should expect to pay in excess of 450FF each way for the
road tolls on this route if you use the autoroutes. We usually find that an
overnight stop in the Beaune or Châlon-sur-Saône area is about the right
distance for the first day's travel.
If you are traveling in July or August we
would recommend booking a hotel a few weeks in advance of your holiday. During
the rest of the year it is usually possible to stay at a hotel without advance
reservation.
